Mandolins for connoisseurs of handcrafted instruments, and for musicians who want outstanding tone, volume, and playability. Models include: a highly-refined standard model for all styles of playing; a unique light-string model for classical, folk, and Celtic music; a model designed for the jazz enthusiast incorporating dual pickups; and a model engineered and set up for the Bluegrass sound. Other models are available by special order and one-of-a-kind artistic mandolins are occasionally available.
The Phoenix mandolins are built by Rolfe Gerhardt. Rolfe was the builder of the legendary Unicorn mandolins in the 70's and has spent the last forty years applying new musical instrument technologies to the 8-string American mandolin.
The "Special A-5 Bluegrass Model," with 100+ year old highly figured maple and A-5 binding details, is currently at The Music Emporium.
"Moose Too" (the second in the moose inlay series) had special visitors at Mandolin Brothers. Jeff Goldblum and Saffron Burrows were shooting an episode of Law and Order up the street from the Mandolin Brothers store and stopped in with a request to see "Moose." Stan Jay happily showed them "Moose Too" (the original "Moose" had already found a home on Long Island), and staff members Alison Jay and Rachel Cohen joined in the group photo. "Moose Too" has a new home, and "Moose T(h)ree has taken its place at Mandolin Brothers.
Out in the Northwest, Miwa purchased a Neoclassical and then a Jazz. You can hear her playing (click here) and read her review of the instruments (click here).
